Out and About

Life Lately…

a

And this was all just last week! We went from delightful fall weather, to 4 inches of snow, to Halloween, to the official change of the holiday Starbucks cup. Confusing, to say the least!

Out and About

The Highline, NYC

Going to The Highline was quite the experience. It covers over 15 blocks of New York gorgeousness, and if it weren’t so incredibly packed, I would walk this trail every day. You get amazing street views, breath taking angles of the Empire State Building (which I continuously pointed out), and of course, your surrounded by nature. Looking at all the fall colored trees and fresh flowers really can make any day that much better.

Bouchon Bakery, Rockefeller Center

I have been dying to try Bouchon Bakery for pretty much ever now. Yesterday as I was wondering through Rockefeller Center, and nearly squealed when I realized it was right in front of me. I was so overwhelmed with menu choices (everything looked so delicious!) but knew that I had to go with something sweet. I ended up walking out with the yummiest bag of bite size brownies, perfectly wrapped with twine. They were a perfect snack for the train ride home.

Banana Caramel Loaf, At Home Entertaining

I’ve been hooked on the Williams Sonoma mix’s lately (see my spiced pecan pumpkin cupcakes here) not only because they taste so good, but they are so easy to make. This banana caramel mix is perfect for dessert after a small dinner party and tastes so good with a big cup of tea. Not to mention the rum glaze makes this a boozy dessert, which is always a win in my book.

Ingredients:

Williams Sonoma Banana Caramel Mix

1 stick of butter

1 cup of water

2 eggs

Directions:

Combine mix, melted butter, water, and beaten eggs into a bowl and mix until all is combined and there are no lumps.

Pour mix into loaf pan, which has been greased and lightly floured.

Pop in the oven for 50-60 minutes

Now for the Rum Glaze. Simply combine:

1 cup confectioners sugar

2 tbs of milk

1 tbs dark rum

1 tsp vanilla extract

Whip together until smooth

Voila!

Pour George Sports Bar, NYC

I am so happy to have stumbled across this cozy little bar (well, happy that GiltCity stumbled across it actually). I purchased a voucher through GiltCity for Pour George Sports Bar located on 8th between 5th and 6th. Initially what came with the package was 2 beer flights, an order of wings, and an order of sliders. First off- the beers were delicious. As I stated here, I’m not too adventurous with my beers, but decided to go for it. I had a flight consisting of Brooklyn Lager, Goose Island Harvest Ale, Sierra Nevada Pale, and the Six Point Crisp Lager. If you have never tried any of these, I recommend you do so.  They were so darn tasty.

Then, the food came out. There is not one bad thing I can say about anything we ordered! After the two of us devoured the wings and sliders, we decided we needed to try more. So on to the next round of beers, with an additional order of fried chicken, french fries, and mac and cheese (because we like to be healthy). If there was even a single morsel left at the table I would be shocked. We loved everything.

If you are in the area, you need to stop by. The decor was incredibly comfortable and inviting, and the staff was so friendly. I know that I’ll be going back!

The Donut Pub

If you have never been to The Donut Pub on 14th (on the corner of 7th), then I suggest you make a pit stop. Ryan and I were suddenly dying for sweets when we looked in their window. And they did not disappoint. I had the most delicious sugared donut that was so incredibly soft and fresh. Next time, I’m getting an entire box. Then going for a jog.

Heartland Brewery, Union Square

In the midst of the Union Square Farmers Market craziness yesterday, we stopped into Heartland Brewery for some afternoon beers. Now, I will be the first to admit that I am not as adventurous with the seasonal beers as I would like to be. So yesterday I decided to save the Miller Lite bottles for another day, and headed straight to the tap. I was presented with a laundry list of delicious fall beers, and was pleasantly surprised! I had a pint (or two) of the Indian River Light Ale, which I could have drank all day. It was so light and refreshing. I also tried a pint of the Cornhusker Lager which was a bit stronger, but still amazing. You can bet that the next time I’m in the area, I am going back there!

Fall

Leaves

To say that I have been enjoying this amazing fall weather, is an understatement. It started out a bit rough, but this past week has been absolutely delightful- and next week is supposed to be exactly the same. Hope you all are out watching football, playing in the leaves, and just soaking up every last bit of this 75 degree perfection. I know that I have been! My fall wardrobe is in full affect and I am loving every last second of my burnt yellow pashmina and little brown dress manicure. Absolute heaven. =)

Happy Friday!!

Cheesy Bread Appetizer, At Home Entertaining

Truth be told, appetizers are my most favorite thing. Ever. I could sit and munch on apps all day long (hello, gluten!). I have found that even sometime when some friends and I are out, instead of ordering meals- we’ll just order a bunch of appetizers to share. Yumm.

This cheesy bread dish is perfect for the cheese lover like myself. It’s also so warming for the cooler months that are right around the corner.

Ingredients:

1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

2 tablespoons mayo

2 tablespoons sour cream

2 tablespoons garlic butter, room temperature

Directions:

Cut Ciabatta loaf in half, horizontally.

Evenly spread the the garlic butter on the loaf.

Combine the mayo and sour cream into a bowl, and then spread on top of garlic butter.

After you are finished with the spreads, layer on the cheeses!

I put this into our toaster oven, and it took about 3 minutes to cook to perfection. Depending on the size of the loaf, this should make you about 25 slices.

Enjoy!
